Both frieze d/e and frieze magazine focus on contemporary art. Launched in 2011, frieze d/e was the first new magazine by Frieze Publishing since the first edition of frieze magazine. Unlike frieze magazine, based in London and written in English, frieze d/e is a fully bilingual German/English magazine with its own editorial team and independent content, based in Berlin.
What is the relationship between publishing and the fairs?
The fairs and magazines are both wholly owned by Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp. frieze magazine was founded, in 1991, by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover. When the magazine began, they both served as editors, but ceased direct involvement in editorial decisions in 2001. Matthew and Amanda are Publishing Directors of frieze d/e but all editorial decisions are made by the frieze d/e editorial team. As Frieze Directors, Matthew and Amanda maintain the overall direction of the art fairs and magazines.
